Overview

This project began with the objective of developing a tool to help students that have been historically underserved and marginalized make informed decisions about their education and career paths while also working to minimize bias and stereotypes in career awareness. Its goal is to ensure that students know the wide variety of occupations available and how the abilities developed in school can be used in the workplace. This exploratory dashboard enables students, educators, and parents to explore various occupations aligned with personal interests and delve deeper into employability/soft skills and the required level of preparation. Note: The background images were sourced from OpenAI's DALL·E 3 generative artificial intelligence model.

Explore your career pathways

The following resources were used to create this dashboard: The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) provided employment data for various occupations through its May 2023 National Occupational Employment and Wage Estimates. The Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) also offered valuable insights into postsecondary education institutions with its 2023 Institutional Characteristics dataset. IPEDS also helped track student completion rates with its 2023 completion data. Finally, the O*NET 29.0 Database provided detailed information on occupations and their requirements, including occupation titles, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Decorate your space

Sometimes, we all need some encouragement and inspiration as we reach for our dreams. Whether you are trying to figure out what to do after school or looking to change your career path, the 28”x40" posters below are designed to remind you that you are multidimensional, and those abilities can be applied at many different levels. The diagrams are called radar charts, which display multiple continuous dimensions (abilities) as axes starting from the same point and extending them radially. Each dimension is represented as an axis starting from the center of the chart. The further out from the center you go, the stronger the association of the skill is with each job zone. May these serve as a reminder to continuously grow as a Creator, Do-er, Persuader, Organizer, Helper, and Thinker.
